All Songs and videos Uploaded, Goals met and Exceeded.

Today we now have eight videos on The Peer Projects Channel, six of which are properly recorded, mixed and mastered songs with matching videos. One a brief talk with Paddy, and the other is an example of some of the music being recorded for the Mr. Brightside track on The Peer Project.
We added more tags to the videos now to help pick up the views and exposure.
All in all the channel looks good, with a custom 'The Peer Project' picture for its profile, it gives it that slightly more professional look.
Allthough the assignment date will have passed soon, The Peer Project is still going to continue. The next stages in my work on it will include recording an artist 'Tom Mc Hugh' a singer/songwriter who is very well known around the trad/rock scene with his cover band 'Green Rising'. He will be recording an original acoustic song with me in the studio.
All in all I enjoyed my Project Realisation and I am glad Paddy and I chose this task. I also enjoyed working with Paddy on the project, and although we both worked under a hectic schedule, we managed to exceed the amount of uploads to the channel than we had previously expected. All in all it was an enjoyable experience.

Two more songs fully mixed, mastered, and videos made.

Two more songs have been fully mixed, mastered, and videos have been made for them.
The songs done are : Paddy Molloy - The Chain ( fleetwood mac cover )
Riaghan O' Callaghan ( Give me your best shot )
The songs came out quite well and we were happy with the finished audio. The videos also came out very well and we will be uploading them very soon. This will give us a total of 6 music/slideshow videos, and 2 extra videos. The two extra videos are important also. One is Paddy giving a brief talk about the project and what it is. The other is a sneek peek of me recording Mr. Brightside's rhythm guitar track. This I feel, will make us more approachable for young musicians seeking to record a track in the future. The videos show that we are young musicians, working for other young musicians, and they also give the channel a more laid back aspect in terms of approachability and for people wanting to record !
Once again the equipment used in the mixing and mastering processes was my Macbook pro, Logic pro studio 9, two Alesis Mkll Monitors, and and Alesis Multimix Firewire 16 channel desk.
Once again we used 'Windows Movie Maker' for the videos.
Our next stage in the project is to upload the videos and start adding a lot of tags to them so they show up in more youtube search feeds, hopefully gaining the channel and more importantly, the musicians, some more views and publicity!

Three More Videos added to songs and uploaded to the channel.

Today we put three more videos together for 3 songs we had recorded for The Peer Project.
The videos we uploaded are :
John and Aoife's version of Adele - Someone Like you.
Carl Mc Nelis's Version of The Killers - Mr. Brightside.
Paddy Molloy and Ryan Mc Closkey's Version of Brian Adams - Run To You.
The videos look neat, simple and professional and we were quite happy with the outcome and quality of them! To make the accompanying videos we used 'Windows Movie Maker'. We contacted Ryan Mc Closkey, and Aoife and John, and let them choose a picture they were happy with and comfortable enough with to be used in the videos, and they were happy with the final product, making us happy too!
The next stage in the project now is to mix and master a track of paddys recorded at the home studio, and finish the video for it and Riaghans song, and upload both tracks. That will give us a total of six tracks finished and uploaded on the channel.
There are also several new musicians asking can they become a part of The Peer Project, and people are taking to the idea and concept of it really well. This means that throughout the summer I intent on continuing the project even after the assignment deadline has passed, I am enjoying what we are doing and am glad we chose this project.

Another Song Recorded !

Yesterday, the Peer projects own Paddy Molloy Re-recorded a track for the project. This time Paddy recorded 'The Chain' by fleetwood mac, one of my all time favourite songs!
The equipment we used for Paddys recording was the home studio set-up consisting of a Macbook Pro with Logic Pro Studio 9, Alesis Mk11 monitors, a Rode NT1-A condenser mic, a set of AKG 170 perception mic's, and paddy's Tanglewood electric acoustic guitar. The recording process went well and we didn't have to do as many takes as we thought for such a difficult song to sing.
We now also have our first video uploaded, which is a live performance by a local musician 'Ryan Mc Closkey' playing walking in memphis live in Solis Lough Eske Castle, Ryan plays there every friday and told us he would like to be recorded, we used a live recording set up for his gig and recorded the 2 hour playlist, then chose what we thought was his best song. We made the accompanying Youtube video using 'Windows Movie Maker' and added a lot of information about Ryan, his music, and what he does, throughout the clip. We were happy with how it looked and plan to keep this style of video for the rest of the uploads.
The next stage in the project is to mix and master Paddys song, and now the four mixed and mastered tracks can be uploaded to the channel, giving us a total of 5 completed songs, videos and uploads. We are also hoping to get an additional track done by a local young musician 'John Doherty' and add it to the channel.

One more song Fully Recorded.

Singer/Songwriter Riaghan O' Callaghan came back up to Killybegs again today to re-record the song she had previously done for The Peer Project. The song was a relatively newly written song of the artists and it was actually quite a long recording process considering the simplicity of the song, however I wanted Riaghan to be happy with her performance in it so we did as many takes as necessary and eventually finished the song perfectly in one day.
The equipment we used was my home studio set-up including an Alesis Firewire 16 desk, two alesis mkll monitors, macbook pro with Logic Pro Studioi 9, AKG perception 170 condenser mic, Rode NT1-A condenser mic, and an Ibanez electric acoustic guitar.
On self evaluation I believe I could have asked the artist to have the track very well prepared as it could have saved us a lot of time and hassle and could have led to a simpler and more enjoyable recording experience for her.
For my next stage in the project I will tomorrow, mix and master the song to achieve the desired and suitable sound for the track. That will be 3 songs fully mixed and mastered in the home studio along with some live performances we have recorded for The Peer Project from actual gigs. We are considering using one of these performances, allthough they are not as high quality as the studio recorded ones, they bring a new element to the channel, and a new option for the artists interested in being recorded.
Another blog will be added tomorrow after the mixing and mastering process is complete.

Two Songs Recorded, Mixed and Mastered.

After getting the macbook pro back, I installed Logic again, but had some trouble with syncing it with my Alesis desk. After some troubleshooting I then visited the alesis website and downloaded updated drivers that were required to run the desk. We recorded my version of The Killers - Mr. Brightside , and a version of Adele's 'Someone Like You' was also played and recorded by Aoife Doogan and John Doherty.
For the Recording Process we used my Macbook Pro with Logic Pro Studio 9 and my Alesis Multimix 16 Firewire desk. Mic's we used included a Rode Nt1-A, and a set of AKG 170 perception mic's.
On self evaluation i believe that the recordings came out good and the mix of both tracks is nice and clear compared to the quality of other local and small scale productions or home projects similar to 'The Peer Project'.
Our intentions for the next couple of days are to get the slideshows done for these songs and upload them. Two more songs will also be recorded, mixed and mastered within the next 4-5 days. The next two artists recording are Paddy Molloy, and Riaghan O' Callaghan. Several other musicians have contacted me asking it possible that they could record, meaning that we could exceed our goals at the start of getting four recordings uploaded with slideshows to our channel.

Macbook Pro Crashed.

After recording our fourth song fully, just a few days later my Macbook pro crashed. I had it sent to Dublin with a friend straight away to a shop called 'Compu B'. When contacting the shop they informed me that the Macbook was not turning on properly because the hard drive had crashed permanently. They said that some of the data may be recoverable but more than likely not. A huge error in this project was not backing up our recordings on a separate external hard drive. I will be receiving the Macbook back this thursday and if the data was unrecoverable we will have to spend a couple of days re-recording the songs. Although this could be quite a setback and is dis-heartening, fortunately, the musicians that played for us have been more than kind and offered to re-record gladly to our relief.
On self-evaluation I feel that i was very foolish not to have the data backed up and could potentially have created an overlog of work that could potentially have to be done to catch up.
Up until that stage I felt that we had been doing quite well in relation to our planned project schedule.
On working further on the project when the macbook returns I have already purchased an external hard drive for backing up further recordings and work. I have also gained access to a range of new mic's from a local drummer and intend on experimenting with them for the use of a cahone that will be played by 'Mojo Gogo's' Drummer and percussionist Jordan Carty.
